I can’t believe it’s already been a week since the Disney Marathon!
While the marathon was the big ticket item on our vacation agenda, we definitely made time for fun. Here is a quick recap of our time in Orlando and how we fit everything into a few days…
Our flight left around noon on Friday, which put us into Orlando just after 2pm. Our only goal for Friday was to get to the expo, so we made that our first stop. The expo was held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. It was well organized and we were able to smoothly move through to get our bib, bag, and shirt.
The expo was PACKED so it was tough to move around. I wasn’t able to shop and visit the vendors as much as I would have liked. Oh well….I was still able to pick up a few RunDisney souvenirs. After the expo, we grabbed dinner in Downtown Disney and headed to the hotel to get my Dad ready for the half marathon the next morning.
My Dad left for the half marathon at 3:30 am. Mark and I volunteered at the half marathon, which had a report time of 6:30 am. Once we checked in, we were shuttled to our volunteer post. We were sent to volunteer at the Finish Line, which was awesome -I was able to catch my Dad as he finished the race!
After the half marathon festivities, we spent the afternoon exploring Disney’s Hollywood Studios and finished the night with a pre-race meal. I was a bit anxious that we were walking around too much before the marathon, but it was okay and I was able to quickly fall asleep when we got back (thank goodness!).
On Sunday, we RAN A MARATHON!!! Followed by eating, sleeping, and pool lounging.
We thought Disney might be a bit crowded after the marathon weekend, so we spent the day at Universal Studios. It was so nice to relax and have fun – especially without race day looming over us! My muscles were sore, but I had no problem walking around the parks. I think keeping active and walking around was helpful in post-marathon recovery. Plus, relaxing in the hot tub afterwards didn’t hurt! 🙂
Our last full day in Orlando. We spent the entire day in Magic Kingdom trying to make the most of every minute. My muscles were still a little tight, but it was a huge improvement from the day before.
Packing up and getting ready to go home can be so depressing sometimes! We had a great vacation and I was sad to see it end. We picked up some souvenirs, ate lunch, and headed to the airport. Back to reality!
We may not have made it to all of the Disney parks but I was happy with our vacation – we volunteered at the half marathon, ran a marathon, explored Universal Studios, and spent time in Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. We played cards, went swimming, and most importantly, enjoyed the time with our families.
Now it’s time to plan our next adventure!
